Behind the Scenes Writing Tag

I saw this tag on Kaite's blog at A Writer's Faith and I'd thought why not? since I haven't done a tag before. (Photo by her)

Is there a certain snack you like to eat while writing?
No. Sometimes I have some kind of sweet or candy in my mouth (like now, I have some halloween lollipop in my mouth) but usually I run out. Sometimes I have a hot drink beside my laptop, usually Milo (hot chocolate) or tea (rose, chrysanthemum).

When do you normally write? Night, afternoon, or morning?
I don't have a specific time, actually. But because I usually get on the computer in the afternoon or night, it's the last two options.

Where do you write?
On my desk. Which is in the study room of my house.

How often do you write a new novel?
I've never written a novel since... *gasp* Nano 2011. I’m doing a short story for this year, though I don’t count it as a novel.

Do you listen to music while you write?
It depends on my mood and what I'm writing. If it's a post on personal life then sometimes. But, like studying, usually I like to write in silence.

What do you write on? Laptop or paper?
Laptop, paper, phone. Sometimes when I'm out and I don't have my notebook, I type in the 'Notes' app of my phone, then send to my computer to complete the post and publish it on my blog. Sometimes it's on my notebook that I usually carry around. Mostly on laptop though.

Is there a special ritual you have before or after you write?
Nope. I don't exactly have 'write a blog post' at a scheduled time at a scheduled day on my planner. It just comes to mind and I open my blogger tab (if it's not open already) and just type or write.

What do you do to get into the mood to write?
I'd be on the computer for awhile, sometimes I'd read some new posts from the blogs I follow. Depending on what I write about, I guess. If I'm writing about my favourite book or movie, I'd read/watch snippets of that.

What is always near the place you write?
Nothing really. Maybe my water bottle, a couple of pens (even though I'm typing). Virtually, tabs of social media pages, some youtube videos I watch between posts, my earpiece.

Do you have a reward system for your word count?
No. I type directly on blogger and not on Pages (Apple version of Word), so I don't know how many words I have for each post.
And I believe that quality is more important than quantity- so word count doesn't really matter in my case.
My reward for blogging is the satisfaction of seeing my own posts being published and the comments the readers give.

Is there anything about your writing process that others might not know about?
Hmm. On some days I have a lot a lot of inspiration and type a lot of drafts, but I don't feel ready to publish them yet. Some time afterwards I'll open up my Drafts section, add some stuff and publish it. So I have a lot of unpublished posts and ideas sitting in the drafts box. [My deepest darkest secrets revealed.]

I tag...
you!

Alright, that's all for today!

  1. I love the big answers you gave, I can just imagine this as a 60 minutes interview! (If you don't know what that is just ask me). I also just love how you didn't give little one word answers.

    1. Erm what's a 60 minutes interview, is it one that takes 60 mins (haha)? V and I both agreed to give more detailed answers to make the whole thing more lively :) Glad you liked it!
